In particular David was an administrator and counsillor of the Beaufort West Council for some 15 years during which his son John Alexander met and married Cornelia Weeber. Thus there was also a close relationship with the local Magistrate, none other than Ebenezer Thomas Anderson, whose son married J.A.Blyth, and with the Member of Parliament of the time, Peter J Weeber. Cornelia Weeber was the daughter of M.J.Weeber, the first Chief Jailor of the town, and also a Deacon and Elder of the local Dutch Reformed Church
