• Military Service. Alf joined up with the Royal Airforce in the U.K. and was sent as a technician to the Airforce Training Camps set up in Southern Rhodesia. He served mainly at the Heany camp near Bulawayo and met his future wife Sheila Anderson there.

Alfred married Sheila Frances ANDERSON, daughter of Rev. William Wardlaw ANDERSON and Sheila BLYTH, on 29 Jan 1944 in Main St. Methodist Church, Bulawayo, S. Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). (Sheila Frances ANDERSON was born on 29 Jan 1921 in Uitenhage South Africa ¹ and died on 29 Jan 1993 in Sybrand Van Niekerk Hospital, Carltonville, South Africa.)
