SHIPMAN, George ¹

  Noted events in his life were:

• Historical. ¹ George Shipman and his family were in the siege of Mafeking
and served under Baden Powell. Five sons were in the armed forces and two younger ones in the Cadet Corps. They ran messages between headquarters and various offices, forts and strong points,
for which they were awarded medals. The "original" Boy Scouts!

George married Charlotte Jane CADLE, daughter of John Henry CADLE and Abigail POWELL. (Charlotte Jane CADLE was born on 29 Mar 1846 in Uitenhage Cape Province South Africa ¹ and died on 16 Jun 1902 in Mafeking, Transvaal, Union Of South Africa ¹.)
